SEASIDE NEWS: SECOND EDITION
NOVEMBER WEEK TWO
Recent news about Oceanic View Stables possibly cutting back their racing roster for the rest of the year have caused quite a stir on the track. Rumors ranging from the entire racing barn being closed the rest of the year, to the newly-achieved turf racer, Majestic Hero, being retired. Are they ending the year early for some of their racing stock? What is going to happen with their horses entered in the Breeder’s Cup? We caught up with trainer and owner, Felicity Chay, to clear up the situation.
REPORTER: So Felicity, tell us what is going on with these rumors flying around. Are you closing up your racing barn for the rest of year fourteen?
FELICITY: Unfortunately, some word got out before we were able to really make a decision on what we are going to do the rest of this year. No, we are not closing the racing barn. No, we will not be pulling our horses out of racing. However, we have made the decision to pull a few of our racers out of racing for the year to ensure they are in excellent shape for year fifteen. Even though they will not be actively racing, they will be in training and are expected to make a full comeback the beginning of the year.
REPORTER: What about those horses that were planned on being entered in the Breeder’s Cup? Will they still be racing? And are there any big names that are going to be cut-off early?
FELICITY: We are still planning on entering our horses in the Breeder’s Cup, although at this point it is just looking like Handsome Tabby in the Breeder’s Cup Turf, Daydream in the Breeder’s Cup Dirt Mile, and Flaming Confidenza in the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Fillies. As for the other horses, the few that need the experience will continue racing. A lot of our two year olds will also be done for the year as they are just getting started in their racing career.
REPORTER: What about Majestic Hero? Will he be retiring early?
FELICITY: That’s where rumors are wrong. Majestic Hero will continue racing until his five year old season. As a barn, we have decided that the rest of his year fourteen is finished. As we have seen in his last two races, he is just too scattered to be a serious contender at the moment. He will continue his training over the break and hopefully will come back as a strong racer in year fifteen.
REPORTER: Glad to hear that some of the rumors were mistaken. Thanks for clearing things up for us and we look forward to seeing these guys on the track in year fifteen.
For clarification purposes, we have included a list of racers that will continue racing the rest of year fourteen at OVS:
Handsome Tabby (Breeder’s Cup hopeful)
Daydream (Breeder’s Cup hopeful)
Glory Bell (Finished before Breeder’s Cup)
Flaming Confidenza (Breeder’s Cup Juvenile hopeful)
Tiny Dancer (Finished before Breeder’s Cup)
